American Ship Anna Decatur
Description

SHIP PORTRAIT PAINTED ON A PORCELAIN TEACUP. These little gems were commissioned by 19th century ship captains while they were in the Port of Hamburg, Germany. Beautifully executed port view of the ship under full sail. Below and on the mast pennant is vessel name "ANNA DECATUR". 3 3/4" tall x 4 3/8" diameter. Gilt borders around the painting, rim, base and on the handle. The ship was built in 1856 at Portsmouth, NH. It was named for Anna Decatur of Kittery Point, ME, the wife of Stephen Decatur. Condition excellent. One of a small grouping of this unique form of ship portraiture that I assembled over several decades.
