FINE FOLDING KNIFE WITH HORSEHEAD AND CANNON BARREL POMMEL that has a fouled anchor on one side and a pole and Liberty cap on the other. Rosewood slab handle with german silver escutcheon plate and 5 proud assembly pins. Signed by the maker on the 4 7/8" blade "R. & R./BUNTING/WARRANTEED". Length open 10 1/2". Overall condition near mint with blade retaining most all if its original bright polished finish. Robert Bunting began his business in Sheffield around 1825 and in 1841 his son Richard joined the firm. Robert died in 1850 at which time the business passed to his son. A beautiful quality and most attractive, 19th century, Sheffield knife.
