HIGH GRADE, BRASS BARREL, FLINTLOCK BLINDERBUSS. Steel lock plate engraved with maker name "BAYLEY". Top of the 14" l. octagonal/cannon turned barrel with deep stamped proof marks and marked "LONDON". Entire brass trigger guard and front finial all boldly engraved with varying designs. Brass butt plate also engraved on the top return. Brass ramrod tubes and brass tip on wood ramrod. Nice engraving on the hammer and the back end of the lock plate. 12 1/2" long triangular shaped snap bayonet mounted on top of the barrel. Overall gun length 29 1/2". Walnut stock finely checkered at the wrist. Condition quite good noting a very fine crack in the wrist area of the stock that was reinforced long, long ago with reinforcing pins. Most likely the work of James Bayley who flourished around London from 1790-1808.
