AMERICAN HORSEMAN SABER, CIRCA 1780. Large, 32 1/2" long, curved blade with a single fuller on both sides. Large brass hilt with counter guard pierced and supported with a center bar. Curved, 1 piece, cow horn handle that terminates with an urn-shaped pommel. Overall length 38". Very good condition noting the grey metal blade has some very small nicks along the edge. About a dozen of these are known and all were likely fabricated for a regiment by the same maker. An identical example is illustrated on page 176, figure 343S in Neumann's "Swords and Blades of the American Revolution". This sword was sold for $4450.00 in Norm Flayderman's last ever catalog #118, item 1539. Scarce, American made, Rev War item.
