FINE 19TH CENTURY BOWIE KNIFE by famous Sheffield, England makers. The ricasso of the 9 1/4" clip point blade stamped with maker's mark "MANUFACTURED/BY W & S BUTCHER/SHEFFIELD". The left flat of the blade also stamped "MANUFACTURED OF/THE BEST QUALITY". Dog bone shaped German silver handle with rosewood slabs, a flush escutcheon plate and four flush assembly pins. Heavy cross guard with tear drop finials. Overall length 14". Maroon leather sheath with nicely scalloped German silver throat, center band and tip. Condition superb throughout with blade retaining most of its original polish. A very desirable form of Bowie by important makers.
