BEAUTIFULLY MADE ADVERTISING PAPERWEIGHT for New York firm that at the time was the largest dry dock firm in America. The flat brass base plate nicely engraved "James Shewan & Sons/Incorporated/Dry Docks & Shipyards/10 Dry Docks/Brooklyn N.Y.". Mounted on the plate is a perfectly made bronze, stockless bower, anchor that is fitted with four pivoting shackles. 3 1/2" w. x 5 3/8" l. Mounted on a 6" x 8" piece of nicely grained mahogany that has softly beveled edges. Overall condition very good noting that there are areas where the original nickel plating is now worn through to the brass. The anchor is perfect and has acquired a most desirable age patina throughout. Circa early 20th century. A very high quality nautical advertising item.
