METICULOUSLY ENGRAVED SCRIMSHAW TOOTH with a portrait of a fashionably dressed female. Over the years I've had a few other examples by this artist including one in my own collection that is illustrated on page 57 in Flayderman's "Scrimshaw and Scrimshanders". Very distinctive style of work using a combination of pin prick and engraved lines to form the image. This one also has a Union Jack symbol that the artist puts on the reverse of some his work. Nice heavy tooth that measures 7" l. x 2 3/4" w. Condition excellent. Great age color throughout. I originally sold this tooth about 35 years ago.
We are always interested in purchasing nautical antiques. If you are selling one piece or your entire collection we would appreciate hearing from you.
