EARLY DECAGONAL BARREL SPYGLASS with the sliding objective lens cover signed in fancy script "Dollond/London". Made from mahogany with all brass fittings. Length closed 25 3/4" with a single draw tube extending it to 32". Sliding cover for eyepiece lens. Condition superb throughout with optics producing, clear, erect images.  Original varnish finish on the wood. Circa 1780. The Dollond family were know to be the premier opticians in 18th century London. Seldom are these rare type telescopes found in this condition. Has been in my personal collection for over 45 years.
