Fine Scrimshaw Seam Rubber
Description

BEAUTIFULLY MADE, ALL WHALEBONE, SAILMAKER'S SEAMER. This is the best quality example made from just whalebone that I've ever encountered. Made using a single piece of dense bone. The long handle handsomely turned and decorated with four raised rings that separate barrel shaped carvings. Mushroom shaped pommel. The rubbing blade flairs out at the top and bottom of each side and the corners edges are carefully rounded off. 6 5/8" long. Blade width 1 7/8". Condition superb. Lovely age color throughout. Circa 1850. Great example of its type. From my personal collection.
