RARE SCRIMSHAW WATCH CHAIN CARVED FROM WHALEBONE. Done in the classic, 19th century style, known as the "Albert chain" which also has a t-bar and adornment. Consists of eight, 1 3/4" long, whalebone links that are all nicely carved. The last link has a t-bar for securing to a jacket and a decorative fob carved in the form of a picture frame that has a young man's portrait inside. Overall length of the chain and fob 15 1/2". Still affixed is an old 1 3/4" d, non working, pocket watch that lacks its bezel but does have the seller name "K W CO/N.Y." which stands for the Knickerbocker Watch Co that operated in NY in the late 19th century. Overall condition excellent noting the pocket watch is nothing special and not operating. Circa mid 19th century. Seldom do complete scrimshaw watch chains come available. From my personal collection.
