Pair of Scrimshaw Teeth

PAIR OF 19TH CENTURY TEETH ENGRAVED ON BOTH SIDES. Front sides having port and starboard views of British naval ships. Above the starboard view is an Eagle holding a banner inscribed with the vessel names "CONCORD & AMITY". Tooth with the port view also with an Eagle above, this one holding a banner with motto "GOD AND OUR COUNTRY". Both Eagles with sunbursts and stars above. Reverse of one with a large monument and a depiction of Britannia riding sea creatures with horse heads. Monument marked "NELSON/BRITANNIA/DRAKE/RODNEY". Below Britannia is an anchor stock, cannon and a banner inscribed "ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY". Other tooth with two females and an Eagle above a banner inscribed "AGRICULTURE-COMMERCE-ARTS-SCIENCES". In the sky above two cherubs hold a scroll with globes beneath the heading "ATLAS". Solid, heavy teeth that measure 6 3/4" h. x 3 1/4" wide. Overall condition very good noting a few areas where the engraving was executed finely resulting in some ink loss. Fine age color throughout. Interesting subject matter.
