FINE PAIR OF SCRIMSHAW CARVED WALRUS TUSKS DECORATED BOTH SIDES. The fronts having a total of eight scenes depicting a double starburst design, a young girl giving treats to two dogs, another young girl with flowers, a young woman with a bouquet of flowers. The right tusk  with an American Eagle at the top with two young girls below, one is skipping rope. At the bottom is a wonderful depiction of a young sailor standing alongside a large fouled anchor with his left arm resting on the wood stock. His right hand is holding a large polychrome colored American flag. In the background is a sailing ship. Below him within a leafy wreath is a lovely poem that reads "The sea is America's glory/The bounding wave her throne/For ages bright in story/The ocean is her own". The reverse of one with a large urn of flowers above a wonderful large depiction of Lady Liberty draped in a polychrome American flag. She holds a pole and liberty cap and a shield with a vignette if a ship under sail. Below her is a double starburst and two crossed cannon. The other tusk with a large depiction of Lady Justice holding her sword and scales while seated on an elaborate pedestal that has an anchor and American flag at its base. 19" l. x 1 3/4" w. Superb quality engraving with numerous areas of polychrome coloring. The base of one with the initials "J D" cut in. Condition superb with a lovely mellow age yellow throughout. Just a wonderful pair of tusks that are fresh to the market.
