LARGE SIZE TINTYPE PHOTO OF AN AMERICAN SAILOR. 6 5/8"h. x 4 1/4"w. No frame. Full standing sailor in his uniform showing his rating badge on his right sleeve. Resting on a pedestal to his left is his hat with vessel name visible "CONGRESS". Overall condition nice and image very clear. Believe sailor was on the Congress that was launched in 1868 and decommissioned in 1876. On page 157 in Tilly's Uniform book there is a 1871 crew photo from "Congress" and one of the men appears to be this same sailor.
