ACTIVE SPERM WHAING SCENE DEPICTED ON A PANBONE PANEL. Nice size measuring 6 3/4" h. x 12 3/4" w. To the left is a large starboard view of a whale ship that looks over four whaleboats that are engaged in sperm whaling. At least 7 whales are depicted, two marked with waif flags. To the far right is a outcropping of rock. Three edges of the panel with 2 engraved lines that create an outer frame. Upper corners with hanging foliate designs. Top border/frame decorated with 2 bored holes with foliate and anchor motifs. Condition very nice Lovely age color throughout. Circa 1840-50.
