BEAUTIFULLY MADE, 19TH CENTURY, WHALEBONE FID. Carved from a single piece of bone that measures 10 3/8" long. Handle portion handsomely fashioned into a dual tapered, octagonal motif that is capped with a mushroom shaped pommel. The handle and tapered fid separated by a funnel shaped ring that acts as a small guard when in use. Condition superb. Sailor's fids made this nicely are actually quite rare. Great example of its type.
