HAND PAINTED PORTRAIT ON THE AMERICAN BARK "JULIUS CAMMERT" OF EASTPORT, MAINE. Done on a white porcelain teacup that is signed on the base with the name of the German porcelain factory "J. G. Hauthal & Co". Depicts a starboard view of the vessel under full sail. Gilt borders around the rim, base, ship portrait and on the handle. Condition very good noting an old mend where the two ends of the handle attach to the cup. This can easily be repaired by a porcelain restorer and would probably be well worth doing. 3 3/4" tall x 4 5/8" diameter. The bark Julius Cammert was built in 1852 at Eastport, ME which was also her homeport. One of a small grouping of this unique form of 19th century ship portraiture that I assembled over several decades.
